Surf’s Up
When ONESTYLE says that Potato Head Beach Club is more than just your average beach bar, make no mistake about it.
The story of PTT Family began when his wife, a talented chef, inspired its founder, a property developer to combine their love for food with their passion for art, design and architecture. Together with their good friend who shared the same vision, they opened their first Potato Head Bistro in Jakarta in 2009.
When they ventured to Bali in 2010 to open the Potato Head Beach Club (PHBC), the island embraced them. Locals and international visitors enjoy their unique aesthetic and approach to music, food, drink and entertainment. At PHBC, they house three distinct restaurants under one roof: the main beach club restaurant and bar, Lilin—a casual dining space, and Tapping Shoes—a fancy cocktail bar.
Potato Head Beach Club has become a must-see architectural destination in Seminyak, Bali, with its massive coliseum clad in the same antique louvered shutters used in its Jakarta counterpart. The infinity pool and the day beds at the bar deck are the most popular spots to enjoy the sunset. Gather your friends and have picnics on the lawn while listening to resident DJs showcase their skills.
As if not already impressive enough, PHBC has established itself as the host of some of the most highly anticipated events in Indonesia which include film festivals and various programmes related to music, fashion and art. PHBC’s summer parties—featuring concerts by some of the most popular musicians globally—have been recognised with various awards.

For a casual and exciting gastronomic adventure, Lilin, with its polished wooden walls and long communal tables offers eclectic Asian fare. Think hearty curries and rice dishes, and fresh seafood barbecued on open grills. It is good to note that the fried catfish with red chilli sambal and lobster green curry are always a hit and pair well with the fruity and spicy sangrias crafted specially for these dishes. Locals are welcome to take a bite into memory lane with the fermented cassava cheesecake—PHBC’s twist on a local favourite.
Note just for the beach bums, PHBC also features an elegant yet homey, chandelier-lit dining space by the quirky name of Tapping Shoes. Recently completing a refurbish, the sophisticated restaurant now features a brand new terrace with lounge seating where guests can enjoy amazing bar snacks and cocktails with incredible views of the sunset over the vast Indian Ocean.
Chef Tim Smith joins the restaurant from Australia, where he is a veteran of some of the most well-respected and luxurious resorts in the country. His new menu features contemporary international food using the best ingredients from around the world, and organic produce, herbs and spices from Bali.
